Week 2 Multisite Research

WordPress Multisite

What is wordPress Multisite?

Standard wordPress gives you control over one website, but Multisite allows for as many sites as you like with each site being able to share files, themes and plugins. You can also have admin privileges over all the sites as well.

Multisite makes it easy to manage all your content from one place!

You are going to want to use Multisite when you own multiple websites, or have sites that share similar functions or branding.

Key Features

Multisite provides you dashboard through which you can create more sites, manage global settings, and oversee your users, and control which kind of privileges that they have.

One neat feature is that you can download a plugin once, and then all you have to do is activate it in the sites in which you want it.

Challenges

Since all sites share the same host, increased traffic on one can potentially slow down your entire network.

If something becomes compromised on your multisite, it can put all your sites at risk.

With the many updates that happen with plugins, its important to note that certain updates, or features may cause glitches or interuptions on one site and not the other, so it leaves room for those types of hiccups to occur.
