Complentary Colors
These are colors which are opposite one another on the color wheel. Using them in combination create a nice contrast.
Monochromatic
b. Monochromatic means you use only one color and then you vary the shades with it.
Analogous
Analogous are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They are nice to use on your website because they naturally blend with one another.
Triadic
d. Triadic is when you pic three colors around the color wheel in a triangle shape. They basically offer a balance of both contrast and blending.
Tetradic
e. Tetradic is where you choose two pairs of complementary colors. This brings your site a lot of colors to work with.
Primary, Secondary, and Teriarty Colors
f. Primary, secondary, and teriarty colors. Primary is your red, yellow and blue, secondary are produced by mixing two primary colors, like blue and yellow to make green. Lastly, tertiary colors are when you mix a primary color with a secondary color.
Warm Colors
g. Warm colors are colors that “feel” comforting, or have a unique warmth about them.
Shades, Tints and Tones
h. Shades, tints and tones. Shades are made by adding a certain amount of black to a color to make it darker. Tint, is where you add white and make the color lighter. Tone is where you add both black and white to change it to be softer or more muted.
Hue, Saturation, and Luminance
i. Hue, saturation, and luminance. Hue is simply just another word for a color. Saturation refers to how vivid a color is. Luminance is how bright or dark the color is.
